LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN 

Pets Alive Westchester is expanding our medical team.  We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong work ethic and strong commitment to providing the highest quality medical care in a loving and compassionate manner. Candidate must embrace Pets Alive Westchester's no-kill philosophy.


This candidate should be highly self motivated, be able to work with minimal supervision and possess good time management skills.  5 Years Experience as an LVT is required – prior LVT experience in a shelter or clinic setting is a plus.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Surgical preparation and recovery.

  • Administration of intravenous drugs and anesthetic agents, including understanding of the basic mechanics of an anesthesia machine

  • Ability to draw blood and place catheters (jugular and femoral catheterization required).

  • Experienced in laboratory procedures such as proper blood and specimen handling, reading of fecal assays and urinalysis

  • Assisting veterinarians with procedures and surgery.

  • Proficiency in aseptic technique, including cleaning, sterilizing and packing of surgical instruments, drapes and gowns.

  • Animal first aid.

  • Ability to properly restrain animals of all sizes.

  • Wound care.

  • Drug calculations.

  • Administration of treatments.

  • Maintaining the facility in a clean and orderly manner.

  • Maintaining equipment in good working order.

  • Medical/surgical supply inventory.

  • Controlled drug log recording

  • Entering information into medical records.

  • Customer service and education .

Requirements:

 


  • Active NYS Veterinary Technician license.
  • 5 Years Experience - shelter or clinic a plus 
  • Excellent communication skills  
  • Valid NYS Driver's License
  • A commitment to developing a relationship with the animals in our facility based on kindness, compassion, and respect. 
  • Strong knowledge of animal behavior.
  • Flexibility to work at least one weekend day each week

DOG CAREGIVER (Full Time)

Pets Alive Westchester in Elmsford, NY is seeking Dog Caregiver(s) to work within a team setting to oversee the health, well being, and general care of dogs.

Position includes but is not limited to cleaning and general maintenance of dog kennels and facilities, poop scooping, sweeping, dusting, mopping, trash removal, preparing food, feeding, watering, socializing dogs, medicating dogs, snow removal, lawn maintenance, laundry, pickup supplies using company van.

Position works with adoption staff to provide information about dogs for potential adoption and keeps detailed records of feeding, medical and behavioral needs.

Good record keeping skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills a must, as is a commitment to developing a relationship with the animals based on kindness, compassion, and respect.

In addition, a strong knowledge of basic dog care and dog behavior is preferred.

Valid NYS Drivers license required.

Breed knowledge, an understanding of positive motivation dog training concepts, and the ability to work with and provide direction to volunteers is desirable. 

Physical requirements:
Physically able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis and work outdoors in extreme heat and cold, standing, stooping, reaching, climbing, walking, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying, squatting, bending, ability to routinely lift and carry 100 pounds. Able to walk dogs in excess of 100 lbs on lead for extended periods. Must be physically able to touch, handle, and be in close proximity to dogs, cats and rabbits for extended periods of time.

CAT CAREGIVER (Full Time)

Pets Alive Westchester in Elmsford, New York seeks Cat Caregiver to work within a team setting to oversee the health, well being, and general care of cats.

Position includes but is not limited to preparing food, feeding, watering, socializing and medicating cats; cleaning and general maintenance of cat facilities, litter box cleaning, sweeping, dusting, mopping, trash removal, scrubbing, and laundry, snow removal, lawn maintenance, laundry, pickup supplies using company van.

Position works with adoptions coordinators to provide information on cats for potential adoption and keeps detailed records of feeding, medical and behavioral needs.

Good record keeping skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills a must, as is a commitment to developing a relationship with the animals based on kindness, compassion, and respect.

In addition, a strong knowledge of basic cat care and cat behavior is required. Valid NYS Drivers license required.
