The Dogs
The following animals are just a few of the many that live here at Pets Alive Westchester.
All are looking for that special someone to share their lives with. If you think you are that person, please take a moment to fill out our on-line adoption application. You MUST have an appointment to see our pets. Please read our adoption page for more information in regards to this.
If you are interested in sponsoring one of the critters here at Pets Alive West please visit our Sponsor A Pet page for more information.
Animal Adoption
Animals are shown by appointment only. We have a small staff and we don't always have an adoption coordinator available to show you the animals you are interested in. We request you fill out an adoption application and our coordinator will be in touch to arrange a time for you to come down. We understand that this is not the way many shelters do it but it solves many problems for both sides. We have someone here that KNOWS the animals and can answer your questions about that animal. We can also better match you to an animal that suits your family and activity level. Sometimes the cutest animal on the page may NOT suit your family life! Our coordinator can best match you to one that does. Additionally if you fall in love with an animal and do not meet our adoption requirements...well, that is just bad for both of us! So please respect our policy and fill out an adoption application. We'll be in touch to help match you to a pet that best suits you!
Thanks for wanting to offer a home to a shelter animal!
Adoptions
We spay and neuter all our animals before they go home. They are also tested for parvo, worms, heartworm, anaplasma, e-canis and lyme disease!
There is an adoption fee for ALL animals. Dogs are $200, ($300 for puppies or purebreds and just $100 for senior dogs).
We charge an adoption fee to prevent people from getting "free" animals and selling them to labs or pit bull rings. We also charge a fee to try to offset some of our costs.
Believe us - the adoption fees do not come CLOSE to the expense of treating, medicating, housing, feeding and providing care for these animals. It costs us $125 to spay and neuter an animal, $10 to microchip them, $30 to get them up to date on all shots, $15 to treat them for fleas/ticks, $30 to treat them for worms, and $40 to test them for heartworm and parvo (or FIV if a cat). If you did all that at the vet, your costs would be triple ours.
